Sport is an important part of Whitsunday Christian College. Our Physical Education program provides opportunity, variety, fun and fitness in a supportive environment with quality facilities. Our College facilities include a football and soccer fields, grass running track, multi-purpose basketball/netball/tennis court, and an undercover multipurpose basketball/netball/volleyball court. The College also uses local community facilities including squash courts, gymnasiums, pools, golf clubs, a PCYC, the Whitsunday Sports Park and the ocean for sailing, stand up paddle board and fishing.
Students from Prep to Year 12 participate in three sporting carnivals annually, including: Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.
Timetabled sport is part of the school curriculum and is set up for development, practice and mastery of skills.
Students from age 10 have the opportunity to trial for positions in Proserpine and Whitsunday District teams which participate in carnivals throughout North Queensland. This serves as a platform for students to progress through representative levels of Queensland School Sport.
There are two more pathways that allow students to be involved in extra sport at Whitsunday Christian College.
The first is participating in a school sports team that has been nominated for a competition. In the past this has consisted of upper Primary Rugby 7’s and soccer, lower Secondary touch football, soccer, basketball and netball as well as Senior Secondary AFL and rugby union. As our school continues to grow, we are looking to enter more school teams into regional and statewide competitions.
After-school sport is the second way students can be involved in participating in extra sporting activities. Primary students are involved in this on a Monday and Thursday afternoon from 3.00pm – 4.00pm, and Secondary students on a Wednesday afternoon from 3.00pm – 4.00pm.
